The Cinque Terre Marine
Protected Area is divided in three zones:
The
zone
A, Punta Mesco,
bordered by marker buoys, is the area of
greatest natural wealth where particularly
restrictive regulations have been set up
to protect the rocky sea bed characterised
by colonies of the sea-fan gorgonia (Paramuricea
clavata) and to guarantee the possibility
to re-establish species which have become
rare due to human disturbance.
In this zone diving, mooring and anchoring,
access to motor-driven crafts, fishing and
not authorized bathing activities are forbidden.
The B
zone covers
two areas. The first represents a protec
strip of zone A and also extends to include
the meadow of Poseidonia oceanica located
to the west of Monterosso, the most important
along the whole Cinque Terre Coast . The
second one , bordered by marker buoys, surrounds
the Capo di Monte Negro, whose depths, along
with Punta Mesco, boast one of the richest
and most interesting biological populations
of our sea, the coralligenous.
In the B zone mooring, professional and underwater
fishing are forbidden.
The C
zone includes
and links the two most distant headlands and allows both the observation and
proof a wide area characterized by alternating rocky and sandy bottoms. The
interesting vaiety of submersed environments, toghether with the naturl beauty
of the landscape, makes the zone in question one of the most remarkable environments
in Italy.
